Purity Hemp Co Coffee Pods Review

I’m an absolute fiend for coffee, so I was more than eager to give this a try the moment the pack arrived. This is the first of five products I’ll be testing and reviewing by Purity Hemp Company, a UK based brand launched by Michael Walker.

Hemp tea is one of the fastest growing areas of the CBD market, whereas CBD coffee is still relatively small in comparison, but I can see this changing over time, in this tea and coffee obsessed nation.

How Do These Work?

The pods contain the ground coffee, infused with CBD, while they’re designed to work on Nespresso coffee machines.

Admittedly, I don’t have a Nespresso machine, therefore I popped the lid on the pod and poured the ingredients into the machine pods I use, which worked a charm.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a Nespresso machine but you have a coffee filter machine, you can pop the top open and pour it in like you would with your normal ground coffee.

It’s worth highlighting that if you don’t have a Nespresso machine, they do sell 250g bags of organic hemp coffee.

The cold pressed freshly harvested hemp leaves and flowers are combined with the ground coffee before being dry-freezed in order to retain their quality and purity.

How Did You Find It?

One thing I was worried initially about was whether they matched the CBD with a high quality coffee bean, as I’m a little fussy when it comes to my morning brew. But my concerns were short-lived, as I sipped away on this great tasting cuppa.

The ground coffee comes from hand roasted Italian Arabica coffee beans, which was packed full of flavour and tasted very high quality.

There was no lingering hemp taste, as being a full spectrum extract, there is always a chance the terpenes can affect the flavour, but this wasn’t the case.

As with any edible or drinkable CBD product, CBD brands have to contemplate whether to make it a CBD isolate, as to remove any flavours that would affect the taste, or go for full spectrum so you get all the added benefits. I’m very glad they chose full spectrum and still offer a great tasting coffee.

It was half tempting to have a complete hemp breakfast, having some CBD honey on toast, along with a hemp protein shake.

How Much CBD Do You Get?

Each pod contains 5mg of CBD, while you get 14 pods in a tin, meaning you get 70mg of CBD.

The Food Standards Agency recommends not having any more than 70mg in a day, therefore you can feel free to have quite a few coffees.

I drink three coffees per day, so during testing I made sure to have three of these pods, meaning I got 15mg of CBD per day.

Considering the ground coffee beans are infused with full spectrum hemp oil, you get a number of other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, helping you to benefit from the entourage effect.

Each pod had a presence of CBDVA, CBG, CBD, THCV, THC and CBDA. CBDVA, or cannabidivarinic acid, is the precursor to CBDV (cannabidivarin), however as you make your coffee, the cannabinoids will be heated up in what is called ‘decarboxylation’, where carboxyl is removed, as CBDVA becomes CBDV.

Is This Organic?

Yes, all ingredients are 100% organic, meaning both the hemp and the ground coffee beans.

I’m very happy to see the coffee beans were organically grown, however it is even more imperative with hemp, as the hemp plant is highly porous, so you don’t want them to use any pesticides or chemical fertilisers at any stage.

Where Can I Buy This From?

You can order the Purity Hemp Co Organic CBD Infused Coffee from their website for £24. This works out as £1.71 per cup of coffee, less than what you’d pay at your local café and with the added CBD boost.
